Mr. Richard Burns, 82, of Peabody, beloved husband of Nancy (Lyons) Burns, died Wednesday, July 12th, 2017 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Earl and Marjorie (Hill) Burns. He was raised and educated in Saugus and Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School.
An honorably discharged veteran he served his country as a member of the United States Airforce.
Mr. Burns had been employed with the General Electric Company for over 30 years until the time of his retirement.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Richard was devoted to his family. He was a long-time member of the North Shore Community Baptist Church in Beverly Farms and for many years volunteered doing missionary work in Ghana, Africa with the Son Light Ministry. He was always willing to help those in need. He was the director of the Christ is the Answer, Short Term, Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation Clinic from 1972-1978. He was devoted to his faith and to helping others. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and was an award-winning gardener, yet above all else he was dedicated to his wife and family and found his greatest pleasure spending time with loved ones. He will be deeply missed.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Nancy (Lyons) Burns of Peabody, his daughters, Jeanne Burns of Groveland, Sharon Burns of Rochester, N.H. and Amy Burns-Price of Salem; his grandchildren, David, Bryanna, Stephanie, Caitlin, Rainey and Tanis and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Mark Burns and brother of the late Earl Francis Burns.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service which will be held in the North Shore Community Baptist Church, 9 Hart St., Beverly, Monday, July 17th at 2 p.m. Burial is private. Assisting the family with the arrangements is The O’Donnell Funeral Home 46 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) Salem. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Richard’s memory to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 222 S. Riverside Plaza, Suite 1500, Chicago, IL 60606.
