Lynn - On Wednesday, July 17, 2019, Robert Kern, loving husband and devoted father of two passed away at age 73.
Born in Chelsea, he was the son of the late Robert G. and Ann (Grady) Kern. He was the husband of Susan A. (Cashman) Kern, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.
He grew up in Salem and lived in Lynn for the past 50+ years. He graduated from Salem Vocational High School, from Newbury Junior College in Brookline, and from North Shore Community College. He was a U. S. Navy veteran and served with the Seabees MCB7.
Robert was a licensed electrician as well as a retired Lynn Firefighter and EMT, serving on the Lynn Fire Department from 1974 until 2009. He was a member of Lynn Firefighters Union Local 739.
Robert was a history buff and loved to read. A car enthusiast, he enjoyed antique cars and auto racing. He loved to travel the world and was always looking forward to that next trip.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his children Michael Kern and his wife Miriam of Peabody and Colleen Kern and her partner Nelson Sosa of Peabody, his granddaughters Isabel and Abigail Sosa who he could never spoil enough, and his two favorite furry friends, Buddy and Lucy. He was also the brother of the late James L. Kern.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple Street, Lynn, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church, 215 Maple Street, Lynn at 10:30 a.m. Burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Lynn.

Bob was a great friend, always there to give a helping hand. We always enjoyed visits to his garage, my husband always enjoyed working on Bobs cars.

mr kern was the kindess and most thoughtful person we have ever met. always a smile and pleasant person. he will be greatly missed. he leaves a beautifull family and it is an honor to have known him. god rest his soul.
