Philip M.'s Story
Philip Murray Anderson, age 89, of Peabody formerly of Lynn, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House. He was the husband of the late Claire L. (Jenkins) Anderson, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.
Born in Everett, he was the son of the late William and Mary (Murray) Anderson. Raised in West Lynn, he was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1945. He cherished the memories of the summers of his childhood when he and his brother Bill would spend the summer with their beloved aunt in Kennebunkport, Maine, a place he would continue to visit his entire life. Throughout his life Philip continued his education at Boston College and Northeastern University. He lived in Lynn until he moved to Brooksby Village 2 and a half years ago.
A Veteran of World War II and the Korean Wars, after he graduated from St. Mary’s he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving until 1947. He then served in the Army until 1950, and finally in the Airforce until 1956.
He had worked at the GE Riverworks Plant for 43 years; retiring in 1988 as the Manager of Transportation and Shipping.
He enjoyed painting, especially lighthouses, reading, and traveling. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and share with them his life story.
He is survived by three children, Susan C. Carroll and her husband, James, of Lynn, Paul M. Anderson and his wife Judi, of Ipswich and Maura Scherrer and her husband Richard, of Lynn; a daughter-in-law, Mary L. Anderson, of Lynnfield, 10 grandchildren, Kristin Faivre and her husband Nick, of N Reading, Philip Anderson and his wife, Ashley, of Lynnfield, James Carroll and his wife, Laura, of Lynn, Lauren Virgilio and her husband, Anthony, of Lynn, Rachel Carroll and her significant other, Nick Conti, of Lynn, Olivia Anderson, of Ipswich, Craig Anderson, of Ipswich, Drew Anderson, of Ipswich, Tracey Scherrer and her significant other, Arjun Iyer, of Lynn, and Stephanie Walker and her husband, Nate, of Winston, Ga.; and four great-grandchildren, Kiera Carroll, Gianna Virgilio, Jacob Carroll, and Philip Anderson. He was also the father of the late Philip Anderson, the brother of the late William Anderson, and the brother-in-law of the late Ann Anderson, and William and Dorothy Jenkins.
His funeral will be held on Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the Solimine Funeral Home 426 Broadway (Route 129), LYNN, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
