Peter Petkewich, son of the late Peter and Margaret Petkewich of Marblehead, passed away peacefully at the Kaplan House on March 29th. Peter was the cherished brother of David (Mary Lou) Petkewich of Reading and Christine (John) Van Remoortel of Marblehead.
He is also survived by his aunt, Anne Petkewich of Saugus, nieces and nephews, Rachel Petkewich of Niskayuna, N.Y., Jarrod Petkewich of Boxborough, Heather Deschenes of Essex, and Andrew Nichols of Phoenix, Ariz., and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Although Peter lived in a group home in Danvers, he was an ardent and enthusiastic fan of all things Marblehead. He loved to take rides to see the harbor, the lighthouse and the beach. Sociability was his middle name, and he had a smile and a handshake for everyone he met at church, nurses, doctor appointments and complete strangers. His favorite were blonde waitresses who got extra taps on their heads.
His support system at this group home knew no bounds in his care, and their enthusiasm, love, and energy for his wellbeing. He loved Batman, Lawrence Welk music, Camp Jabberwocky, his parents and his housemates. Nothing topped cookouts with his housemates and their families as long as there were hamburgers.
A service will be held on at 1 p.m., Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (Corner of North St.), Salem, MA 01970.
