Paul E.'s Story
Paul E. Caverly 83, beloved husband of the late Valerie A. (Venne) Caverly, died Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at the Beverly Hospital.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Mary Anna (Proulx) Caverly. He was raised in Beverly and graduated from Beverly High School, Class of 1952.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Korean Conflict as a member of the United States Navy.
Mr. Caverly had been employed in coding specialties for over twenty years until the time of his retirement in 1989. Prior to that he had worked in the chemical industry where he was a manager at the time of his parting. He had also owned and operated Ryal Side Laundry Mat in Beverly for twenty two years.
Active in the community, he was a member of the Ryal Side Civic Association and had been involved with the Beverly Little League as a coach for many years.
He was a member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Leo Council 508 in Peabody for over fifty years. He was also an avid golfer who was a member of the Beverly Golf and Tennis Club and Spring Lake Country Club in Seabring, Fla.
Paul’s family would like to thank the staff at the Hawthorne Hill Health Care Center in Danvers for their care of Paul over the past nine months.
Surviving him are two daughters, Denise Colangelo and her husband, James of Beverly and Donna Caverly of Salem, NH, two sons, Douglas Caverly and his wife, Julie of Somers, CT and David Caverly and his girlfriend, Barbara Cochran of Washington, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and his special friends, Joanne King and Ed Kowalski. He was also the brother of the late Catherine “Joanne” Slaven and John Caverly.
His funeral service will be held in the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 12 noon. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
