Norman F. Stone, Jr Ipswich - Norman F. "Schultz" Stone, Jr., 66, lifelong resident of  County Road, died Wednesday, October 17, 2018 in the Beverly Hospital following his long illness.
Born in Ipswich August 4, 1952 he was one of the two children of the late Norman F. and Barbara M. (Thompson) Stone. "Shultz" was a 1970 graduate of Ipswich public schools, going  on to serve as a call fireman. He served with the Ipswich Fire Dept. for 38 years and Rowley Fire Dept. for thirty-two years. During these years he was employed as a tow truck driver for R&R Auto Body and was most recently employed as a heavy tuck driver for Miles River Sand and Gravel of Ipswich.
" Shultz" was an enthusiastic supporter of the Ipswich Tigers and  for years  worked the football side lines. With enthusiasm to spare, he supported the efforts of the firefighters and their many organizations. He was a member of the Box 52 Assoc., and the American Hand Fire Engine Society with whom he traveled throughout New England with the hand tub team of Protection No. 1 Ould Newbury.  He also belonged to the Amoskeag Reserve Engine Company, New England State Veteran Fireman's League where he had served as president and longtime as a time keeper, Essex County Fire Wardens Assoc., Mass. Antique Fire Apparatus Assoc., Mass Call/Volunteer Firefighters Assoc. and was  a lifetime member of the Ipswich Fireman's Relief Assoc.
He is survived by his brother Robert M. Stone of Ipswich and seven aunts, Eleanor Peatfield of Newburyport, Grace Cullen of Amesbury, Evelyn Stone, Marylin Stone and Marlene Shannon of Ipswich, Charlotte Teshko of Hamilton and Patricia Simmons of Hampton, N.H.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 22 in Our Lady of Hope Church, 1 Pineswamp Road, Ipswich followed by interment in the New Highland Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours are Sunday 4 to 8 p.m. in The Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich.
