Norman W. Lavoie

September 04, 2018

Peabody - Norman W. Lavoie, 70, beloved husband of Sandra (Cunningham) Lavoie, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at the Pilgrim Skilled Rehab and Nursing Center in Peabody, while in the comforting presence of his family, following an extended illness with Alzheimer’s. His family extends their grateful appreciation for the care received at Pilgrim House, from Compassionate Care Hospice, Union Hospital in Lynn, and Pond View Adult Day Care in Lynn.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Armond and Frances (Sweeney) Lavoie. He grew up in Salem where he graduated from Salem High School.

He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

Upon returning to the North Shore, he was a police officer with the Town of Danvers for a few years. He later was a Machinist with G.T.E. Osram Sylvania for 25 years of service until they closed. He worked with Thermal Circuit for 10 years until retiring, and also delivered food with the Town of Danvers Public Schools.

Norman was a coach in Danvers youth sports with soccer and softball. He was an avid reader and enjoyed history, being outdoors tending to his flower and vegetable garden, and his creative solitary time was spent doing oil paintings. He loved good food, especially ice cream or the chop suey sandwiches or popcorn at Salem Willows. He was deeply devoted and passionate about his family, and enjoyed having them gathered together along with many friends.

He is survived by his wife Sandra (Cunningham) (Woods) Lavoie of Lynn, with whom he shared almost 20 years of marriage; two daughters, Jennifer Belanger and her husband Keith of Maine, and Allison Caron and her husband Dave of New Hampshire; four grandchildren, Brittaney Amnott, Jacob Caron, Molly Caron, and De Anna Woods; a brother John Lavoie and his wife Janet of Massachusetts; and an aunt Lil Sweeney; a sister-in-law Linda Stoey; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his step-son, Jason Woods.

Following cremation, relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018, from 3 to 5 p.m., in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Sept 17, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by urn burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 800 West Cummings Park, Suite 3100, Woburn, MA 01801, or to Pondview Lodge, c/o Activity Dept., 112 Kernwood Dr., Lynn, MA 01904.
