Natalie's Story

Text size

BEVERLY - Natalie June (Belknap) Pierce, beloved wife of the late Franklin T. Pierce, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Herrick House in Beverly.
Born and raised in Beverly, Natalie was the third child of the late Lawrence Burke and Ethel Gardner (Burns) Belknap. She was predeceased by her sister Doris Virginia (MacArthur) and brother Lawrence Burke Belknap. Natalie graduated at age sixteen from Beverly High School and continued her education in Boston at Pierce Secretarial School. Though the school had no connection to her future husband, Natalie often jokingly wondered whether her mother's choice of her continuing education was some sort of foreshadowing at play.
Natalie was an active member of the First Parish Church in Beverly, singing in the choir before her marriage there and serving for several years in the early sixties as Religious Education Director as well as providing her famous chocolate, divinity, and penuche fudge for all the Church Fairs for years before and after that time. Always quick-witted and creative, she enjoyed gardening, knitting, and spending lots of time at Rice's Beach. She was an avid reader, lover of classical music, and an ardent admirer of Queen Elizabeth II. From the age of eleven, Natalie maintained a deep friendship with her "pen pal" in Dresden, Germany, which eventually touched all her family members and many acquaintances. She was a good and faithful friend to all who knew her.
Natalie is survived by her two children, Sandra Griffin and Richard Pierce and his wife, Jan, of Beverly; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Aleksandra and her husband, Joseph (Ryan), Erika, Peter, Matthew and his wife, Elizabeth, Brian and his wife Maria, Haley and her husband, John, and Luke and his wife Abbey; four great-grandchildren, Joseph (Eli), Oliver, Olivia, and Addelyn; nephews, Frederick and Alan; nieces Carolyn, Candace, Joan, and Sally, and many dear and devoted friends.
Arrangements: Her services will be private. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly/ Memorial donations in Natalie's name may be made to the Staff Appreciation Fund, Herrick House, 89 Herrick Street, Beverly, MA 01915 or to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Ste.
