BEVERLY, MA - Mary Ann (Armstrong) Clynes, age 90 years, wife of the late William Clynes, died Saturday, December 16, 2017, at the Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Beverly. Born in Salem, daughter of the late James and Diana (Aylwin) Armstrong, she had been a resident of Salem all of her life. She was a graduate of Salem High School and continued her education at Carney Hospital Nursing School where she earned her Registered Nurse's degree. She was employed with employed with Salem Hospital and the Visiting Nurses Association and retired from Dr. Murray's Practice after 20 years of employment.
Mrs. Clynes was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling to Maine. During her retirement, Mary Ann and her husband, William, wintered in Florida for several years.
Surviving her are her nieces and nephews, Judith Armstrong Pickard of Beverly, Maureen Armstrong Darci and her husband, Joseph of Marblehead, Michael Armstrong and his wife, Joyce of Connecticut, Jane Armstrong Farley and her husband, David of Peabody, Catherine Armstrong Actis and her husband, Michael of Peabody, Caroline Armstrong and her companion, Dana Smerizynski of Beverly; her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Armstrong of Peabody; and her cousin, Albert Mackey of Bow, N.H. She was also the mother of the late Peter Clynes and aunt of the late James Armstrong. She was also the sister of the late James W. Armstrong, George P. Armstrong, and Thomas J. Armstrong.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., corner of North Street, Salem, on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem. As requested, there are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
