Mary (Gounaris) Christopher 89, beloved wife of the late Peter T. Christopher, died Thursday, December 21, 2017 at her home surrounded by family.
Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Emily (Correia) Gounaris. She received her education in the Salem school system and graduated from Salem High School.
Mrs. Christopher worked with her husband, who co-founded the Beverly Bowl-O-Mat, River Street Grille, and the Bowl-O-Mat Boat ramp. Prior to that, as a young woman she worked as an operator for New England Tel. & Tel. in Salem.
A lifelong resident of the City of Salem, she was a member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody. She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Theodore Christopher and his wife, Amy of Danvers; her daughter, Emily Angelini and her husband, James of Beverly; her grandchildren, Michelle, Peter, Steven, Stephanie and Maria; her niece, Debra Lawrence and her husband, Jack, along with her great nieces, Erica and Allison Lawrence. She was predeceased by her sister, Betty Polmenako.
Arrangements: Her funeral service will be private. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly.
