Martha I. (Frank) Hutchins, 100, passed away on Saturday, May 20th, 2017. She was the beloved wife of the late Warren C. Hutchins.
Born in Boston, she was the dear daughter of the late George and Margaret (Dwan) Frank.
Mrs. Hutchins worked at the Beverly Public Library for 20 years as head Children’s Librarian and was a member of the Eastern Massachusetts Children’s Book Review Committee. Following her retirement she returned to do programming for two years and started their Monday morning programs at the library, which are still in existence. She also gave many book reviews.
After graduating from Malden High, Mrs. Hutchins attended Boston University School of Music. She played the organ in the historical “Old North Church of Boston”. While living in Malden, and later in the Melrose areas, she was an organist and choir director in several of the local churches. After moving to Beverly, she played interim at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and Memorial Methodist Church.
Mrs. Hutchins was also a member of the Boston Organist and Choir Guild, North Shore Organ Society and the Second Congregational Church of North Beverly where she served on the Music Committee.
Surviving her are two daughters, Carol R. Wilson and her husband James of Reading and Judith P. Fiory and her husband Charles of Delaware; one brother, Sewell A. Frank of Charlton; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also pre-deceased by her sister, Gladys R. Olge.
Martha’s Funeral Service will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Second Congregational Church, 35 Conant Street, Beverly, MA 01915 or to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Avenue, Salem, MA 01970.
