Marjorie A.'s Story
Marjorie A. Harwood, age 83, of Exeter, N.H., passed away on Sunday, September 10 at her home in Exeter, N.H.
She was born in Newton, Mass., and was the dear wife of the late Richard F Harwood and the daughter of the late Arthur and Pearl E. (Proctor) Birkmaier.
Marjorie graduated from Watertown High School in 1952 and obtained her AS in Secretarial Studies from Chandler College in 1954. She married Richard, the love of her life, on September 24, 1955. She worked at Arthur D. Little after graduation and moved to Beverly in 1957 where she worked at Centerville Elementary School as a lunchroom aid for many years. She also taught Sunday school and organized the White Elephant table for many years as a member of the Second Congregational Church, United Church of Christ of Beverly. On May 31, 2009 she was honored as the recipient of being an active and faithful member of the Church for over 50 years. She was also recognized for greater service in the Christian Church Universal and in the Kingdom of God. Her work along side her husband on the bean suppers and roast beef dinners were a highlight of her participation at church, along with enjoying various ladies groups.
Her love for Drakes Island in Wells, Maine for the past 57 years was a highlight of every summer including this past summer where she especially enjoyed spending time with her family making memories that will last forever.
As an avid Boston sports fan and her beloved Bruins, she is survived by her four children, Douglas L Harwood and his wife, Cathy of Bedford, N.H., Nancy J. Eaton of York, Maine, Lynda Ramsdell and her husband, Tom of Wells, Maine, and Ronald Harwood and his wife, Jodi of Hillsborough, N.J. She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Marjorie’s graveside service will be held at North Beverly Cemetery, 685 Cabot St., Beverly, on Monday, September 18th at 12 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
