Text size

Marie Stevenson, a longtime resident of Salem, died August 18, 2017, at the age of 92. Marie was the wife of the late Edward M. Stevenson, who served as executive director of the House of Seven Gables Museum from 1977 to 1992. For many of those years, Marie and Ed lived in an apartment on the grounds at the museum, and then moved to Orne Square where they lived after Ed retired. Marie graduated from Wheaton College in 1946 and married Ed in 1947. After raising her three children, she sold real estate, did tax preparation work, and was involved in a charitable endeavor. She moved to Norwalk, Conn., in 2015. Marie died near her beloved summer home in Holderness, N.H. She is survived by her three children, Katherine S. Taylor of Brookline, Laurence Stevenson of New Marlborough, and Jayne S. Desloge of Norwalk, Conn. She also leaves six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, Marie asked that donations be made to a non-profit dedicated to fighting exploitation of and violence against young women, My Life My Choice, 989 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, MA 02215. The website is www.fightingexploitation.org.
