Text size

Margaret D. “Peggy” Kelley, R.N., of Beverly, died peacefully on Sunday, August 6, 2017, after a long illness with her family by her side.
She was a resident of Beverly, the daughter of the late William E. and M. Doris (Courtney) Kelley Jr., and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Beverly, and later from St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing in Boston.
She had worked on the Project H.O.P.E. Hospital ship for two tours in Nicaragua and Columbia, in 1966 and 1967. Peggy returned home and had been a nurse at the Lahey Clinic in Boston/Burlington for over 30 years. She also worked as a nurse in Colorado and Oregon. Peg had a passion for skiing and enjoyed many days on the slopes of Stowe, Vt., the White Mountains, Colorado, and Park City, Utah. She later spent time playing tennis and golf at the Wenham Golf Club and at Beverly Golf and Tennis Club. She was a world traveler having been to many parts of the world with her friends. She always looked forward to the many family gatherings and events. Peg had been a communicant and eucharistic minister at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church and an avid Red Sox fan. She was a fun loving and most generous person in helping others and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her two brothers and sister-in-law, Robert W. Kelley and Richard and Barbara Kelley, all of Beverly; her nieces and nephews, Janet, Brenda, Carolyn, Jeanne, Rick, and Stephen; and her great-nieces and nephews, Anna, Olivia, Henry, William, Amanda, Megan, Sarah, Abbie, and Hugh. She was the sister of the late William E. Kelley III, who died earlier this year and the late Sister Ann C. Kelley S.N.D.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 10, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church, Beverly. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beverly. In lieu of flowers, an appreciative donation in her memory may be made to Saints Academy, ATTN: Scholarship Fund, 111 New Balch St., Beverly, MA 01915; or to Project H.O.P.E., 255 Carter Hall Lane, P.O.
