Lucy Jaudon's Story
Lucy Jaudon Butler died on May 12, 2017, in Newbury, Mass. Mrs. Butler was the beloved wife of the late Jonathan Butler of Newbury and daughter of the late James Outram and Dorothea Frothingham Bangs of Nahant, Mass. She was born July 22, 1938, in Boston, Mass.
She is survived by her three daughters, Diana Mathey of Newbury, Susanna Batchelder of West Palm Beach, Florida and Emily Batchelder and her husband, Kevin Toomey of Charlestown; her grandchildren, Peter, Sam, Alexandra, Max and Sarah; and her great-grandson, Tripp. She is also survived by her sister, Diana Garmey and her husband, Ronald of Boston; and her brother, James Bangs and his wife, Beverly of Kennebunk, Maine.
Lucy worked for many years at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, where she retired as the Registrar. She was an avid gardener and reader, a volunteer at the Newburyport Historical Society and Chair of the Newburyport Garden Tour.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 3 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 705 Hale Street, Beverly Farms, MA 01915. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Friends of the Olmstead Landscape at Moraine Farm through the Essex County Greenbelt, c/o Shelley Raymond, Operations Manager, Greenbelt/Essex County’s Land Trust, 82 Eastern Avenue, Essex, MA 01929.
