Lois (Lyons)'s Story
Mrs. Lois (Lyons) Brophy, 85, of Beverly, beloved wife of John J. Brophy, died peacefully Thursday, July 27, 2017.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Martin and Mary E. (Bresnahan) Lyons. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1950. She received her teaching degree from Bridgewater Teachers College in 1954.
Lois had been employed as a physical education teacher for over 30 years. Most recently she was associated with the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District until the time of her retirement in 1993.
A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Lois was devoted to her family. She loved the beach and enjoyed spending time strolling West Beach hunting for sea glass to share with her family as keepsakes. A resident of the Town of Topsfield since 1993, she had previously lived in Hamilton.
Lois is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, John J. Brophy of Beverly, her daughters, Jacquelyn Brophy and her wife, Betty Zakheim of Boxborough, Alison Cummings and her husband, Scott of Bedford, N.H., and Lauren O’Brien and her husband, John of Beverly, her son, Kevin Brophy and his wife, Christine of Hamilton; her grandchildren, Amy Sherr and her husband, Ben, Michelle and David Cummings, Emma, Finn and Owen Brophy, and her brother, Joseph M. Lyons and his wife, Barbara of Virginia. Lois was predeceased by her son, Michael and was also the sister of the late John Lyons.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral service which will be held graveside in St. Mary’s Cemetery, North St., Salem, Tuesday, August 1st at 11 a.m. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (Route 62), Danvers.
