HOLLISTON - Miss Linda Noreen Wood, 71, of Holliston, formerly of Marlborough and Danvers, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2017, following a period of declining health.
Born in Danvers, she was the daughter of the late George and Grace (Rier) Wood. She was raised in Danvers and lived most of her adult life in Marlborough prior to moving to a loving group home in Holliston.
Linda made friends wherever she went. Though she faced developmental challenges, she carried on with determination, holding various jobs including working at Wendy's and Boston Market. Linda was a strong advocate for dignity and respect for those with mental and physical disabilities. She often addressed staff of state institutions, informing them of the treatment she had received while a resident of Palmer State Hospital when she was young. Her experiences brought insight to life as a patient at that time, compared to how conditions are now. Her family was very proud of her educating other through "speaking out."
Linda is survived by her brothers, Charles Wood and his wife, Natalie of Sandown, N.H., and James Wood and his wife, Renee of West Suffield, Conn., and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Linda's family is extremely thankful for all those who looked after her, and the special care and love she received from Lisa Walker and Naomi Santos over the years.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held in the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St. (Route 62), Danvers, Friday, December 8, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Holten Cemetery, Danvers. Visiting hours Thursday, December 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Linda's memory to the Special Olympics Massachusetts, 512 Forest St., Marlborough, MA 01752.
