Kathleen "Catie"'s Story
SALEM, MA - A beautiful soul, Kathleen "Catie" Mary (Cunningham) Dee, left this earth on February 2, 2018, at the age of 61. We love this beautiful person, and our hearts are broken. Our family will never be the same.
Born in Peabody, Catie was the daughter of Joanne (French) Cunningham and the late Robert Cunningham. Catie attended St. James Grammar School, and she was voted the "happiest senior girl" when she Graduated Salem High in 1974. Catie was a graduate of Essex Aggie School for Nursing. She worked for many years as a nurse at Salem Hospital, and for Dr. Maury McGough at Harbor Medical Group. She enjoyed vacationing on Cape Cod with her family. She also spent many years volunteering at the St. James Parish Bazaar, and the Ward 4 polling station.
She loved talk radio and was referred to as "Catie with the laughing voice." She especially enjoyed her police scanner because she had a special love for the Salem Police Department.
She grew up in the "house with the decorated porch," and after she was married, she and Jim became the owners of the "house with the decorated porch." They have maintained the decorations in great style.
Catie had deep faith, and believed in God's love and forgiveness.
Catie is survived by the absolute love of her life, her husband James F Dee Sr., of Salem; her sons, Robert Dee, of Salem, and his fiancée, Lucy McIntosh, and James Dee Jr., of Salem; her mother, Joanne Cunningham, of Salem; her sister, Kristen Cunningham Lee, and her partner, Peter Marino, of Salem; her brothers, Thomas Cunningham, of Salem; Robert Cunningham, and his wife Tina, of Peabody; and Peter Cunningham, and his wife, Jennifer, of Salem; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours in the Berube & Sons Funeral Home, 191 Lafayette St., Salem, on Wednesday, February 7, from 4 to 8 p.m. Her funeral Mass will be held Thursday, February 8, at Ste. Anne Church, Jefferson Ave., Salem, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Catie's name to Lifebridge, P.O. Box 810, Salem, MA. To send a message to the family, please visit www.BerubeFuneralHome.com.
