June E. Wildes 87, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2017, at the Ledgewood Rehab and Health Care Center in Beverly following a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Born on July 6, 1930, in St. Johnsbury, Vt., she was the daughter of the late Jed and Mary (Powell) Drown. She was predeceased by her husband, George Wildes Sr., who passed away in 2004. They shared 52 years of marriage, made their home in Wenham, and raised seven children together.
She attended St. Johnsbury Academy and then college at Katherine Gibbs School in Boston.
She was an avid seamstress and many would call upon her to fix just about anything. She designed and made everything from dresses and suits to wedding gowns. She was also involved in making cheerleading uniforms and costumes for the local high school. June then went on to make slip covers and was well known throughout the North Shore and beyond.
Active in the community, she was a member at the First Church in Wenham for many years, a Girl Scout leader, and a member of the TOPS where she kept in contact with all of the 'girls" and enjoyed their company.
June was loved by many. She was a caring person who spoke kindly of everyone. She was always there when someone needed a helping hand.
June had a "village" to take care of her in recent years. A special thank you and recognition goes out to her wonderful caretakers, Tina, Danielle, Carla, Linda and Dawn. She received great care and support at Ledgewood Rehab and also through the Wenham Council on Aging.
She is survived by her daughter, Penny Hawkes and her husband, Gregory of Wenham; daughter, Jane Parsons, her husband, Robert of Rochester, N.H.; son, William Wildes and his wife, Christine of Wenham; son, Daniel Wildes and his wife, Christine of Rowley; and son, Stephen Wildes of Massachusetts; 12 grandchildren, Nicole, Rebecca Oscar, Kendall, Devin, Daniel Jr., Ashley, Anika, Anders, Ababa, Sara and Baba; and four great-grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late Peter S. Wildes and George F. Wildes Jr.
Her memorial service will be held at the First Church in Wenham, One Arbor Street, Wenham, Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 12 noon. Her burial will be held prior to the service on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Wenham Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
