Joyce E.'s Story
Joyce Ellen (Kanosky) Shore, 85, of Newburyport, Mass., previously of Lake Worth, Fla., Lynn, and Peabody, Mass., entered into rest on November 4, 2017, with her children by her side. Born on April 24, 1932, Joyce was the devoted wife for 65 years to the late Lester Shore.
Joyce, daughter of the late Jack and Lillian Kanosky, began her education in the Lynn Public Schools, a brilliant enough student to skip the first grade and later be given the chance to skip another grade, which her father forbade, fearing her classmates would be too old for her socially. Joyce went on to graduate from Lynn Classical High School, Class of 1948, and to earn an associate degree from Cambridge Junior College. Joyce spent several years as a Brownie group leader in the Rolling Hills development in Peabody and a Sunday school teacher at Temple Beth Shalom. Joyce worked in the office of General Electric in Lynn and went on to have a successful career in retail sales for more than a decade, working at the Jordan Marsh jewelry counter in Peabody and at Sumner’s Paint and Wallpaper in Salem. Despite failing her driving test at least three times, Joyce persisted and finally earned her license, proudly driving a yellow Toyota Corolla and bronze Pontiac Sunbird with the license plate, “My Joy.”
Joyce found tremendous joy in the relationships she built with friends and family and will be greatly missed by the many people she loved so much. She was the loving mother of Michael and his wife, Susan Shore of Oceanside, N.Y., and Robin and her husband, Raymond Kohut of Newburyport, Mass. She was doting Nana Joyce to grandchildren, Janna and her husband, Daniel Millard of Amesbury, Mass., Lindsey and her husband, Brian Theberge of Amesbury, Mass., Dara Shore of Washington, D.C., and Ava Shore of Oceanside, N.Y. She was adoring great-grandmother to Landon and Kiley Theberge; and sister to Toby Lee Lutch and the late Selwyn Kanosky. Additionally, Joyce leaves behind many family and friends that she loved dearly.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Joyce Shore on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Bradford Tavern, 87 Haverhill Street, Rowley, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice. To leave a condolence, visit www.mackeyfuneralhome.com.
