John's Story

Captain John Spiridigliozzi Jr., 85, beloved husband of Louise “Shirley” (Asselin) died Thursday, September 7, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Beverly, he was the son of the late John Sr. and Faustina (DelMastro) Spiridigliozzi. He graduated from Beverly High School, Class of 1951 and attended the Fire Fighter Academy.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Korean Conflict as a member of the United States Air Force. John serviced for 32 years with the Beverly Fire Department.
A lifelong resident of Beverly Farms, Captain Spiridigliozzi was a communicant of St. Margaret Catholic Church, Beverly Farms. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Vittori-Rocci Post # 56, and the Wenham County Club. He was also a dedicated volunteer at the Beverly Hospital with over two thousand hours of service. John had a deep faith in God and was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife with whom he shared 61 years of marriage, he is survived by his children, Gail Spiridigliozzi Wilkes and Carey of Durham, N.C., Janet Doig and Bruce of Beverly, Michael Spiridigliozzi and Brenda of Beverly, Jean Sword and Randall of Beverly and John Spiridigliozzi of Cary, N.C.; his grandchildren, J. Matthew Wait, Elizabeth Wait, Mary Elizabeth Wilkes, Olivia Wilkes, Christopher Doig, Nicholas Doig and wife, Kaitlyn, Kayla Doig, Nicole Spiridigliozzi, Robyn Prendergast and Brandon, Benjamin Sword, Alexander Sword, and Louie, sister-in-Law, Dora Spiridigliozzi of Hamilton, brother-in-law, Albert Asselin of Hooksett, N.H. and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by Florence Spiridigliozzi, Rose Spiridigliozzi, Linda and James DiFazio, Anne and Frank Saraiva, Sam and Nancy Spiridigliozzi and Alexander Spiridigliozzi.
The Spiridigliozzi family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to the staff at Care Dimensions for their loving care and support over the past few weeks.
John's funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret Church, 672 Hale Street, Beverly Farms, Mass., Monday, September 11, 2017 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Burial in the Beverly Farms Cemetery.
