John S.'s Story

John Stanley Szczechowicz, 70, a 48-year resident of Lynn, passed away Wednesday, July 05, 2017. Born and educated in Salem, John was the son of the late Joseph and Genevieve (Lipka) Szczechowicz; he was the beloved husband of Patricia (Green) Szczechowicz with whom he shared 48 years of marriage; the devoted father of James Carlson of Lynn and John S. Szczechowicz, Jr. and his wife, Amy of Northwood, N.H.; the cherished grandfather of Jeremy and Joshua Carlson; and the dear brother of Edward Szczechowicz of Hamilton, Henry Szczechowicz of Beverly, Joseph Szczechowicz of Hamilton and the late Stanley “Stash” Szczechowicz of Salem. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
John worked as a metal finisher for over 40 years for EG & G in Wakefield until it closed. After that, John worked for over 12 years at TDF in Danvers until his retirement in 2012. In his younger years, John enjoyed playing basketball. Later he liked to play softball in the Peabody pub league and also bowled in leagues at the Metrobowl and Lucky Strike in Peabody. He was always the life of the party and became friends easily with everyone he met. He was an avid Boston Sports Fan and enjoyed the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins. Most of all, he loved spending time with his wife and family, especially his grandchildren, when he enjoyed ocean fishing, camping and dancing.
John’s funeral will be held on Friday, July 7th at 12:00 p.m. at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. Lynn. Burial will follow at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Visiting hours will be held prior to the funeral on Friday, July 7th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Noon in the funeral home.
