Danvers - Mr. John J. O'Brien, 97, of Danvers, beloved husband of the late Sally T. (Larsen) O'Brien, died Sunday morning, May 12, 2019 following a brief illness.
Born in Natick, he was the son of the late John S. and Rose E. (McCabe) O'Brien. He was raised and educated in Natick and was a graduate of Natick High School. He continued his education at Pittsburg Institute of Aeronautics and attended Bucknell Junior College during his military service to his country.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army Air Corps, during World War II. He was a Pilot in the 311th Troop Carrier Squadron in the Pacific. John proudly supported many veterans' causes. In 2010, John and his son John Kevin were privileged to partake in a Veteran's Honor Flight to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Mr. O'Brien was employed in the leather industry throughout his career. He began this work in Wisconsin where he met Sally and where their three children were born. His job brought him to the North Shore for a few years and then to Canada for three years. In 1961 the family returned to the North Shore, settled in Danvers permanently. For the last 19 years of his career, he was a Sales Representative for Stahl Finish Company where he traveled weekly to New York, as well as trips to Venezuela, Ireland, the Netherlands and Italy
A loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, John was devoted to his family and faith. He was a communicant and one of the founding parishioners of St. Richards Parish in Danvers. A longtime resident of the Town of Danvers, he was a member of the V.F.W, Charles W. Davis, Post 2359 of Danvers. John's joy in life came from being with his family. He also enjoyed working in his yard, watching "the golf" and solving word puzzles.
John is survived by his children, Sharon Jaworski and her husband John, Katrinka O'Brien, and John Kevin O'Brien and his wife Sharon Wladkowski, his grandchildren, Skip, Corey, Jake and Amy and Corey Dylengoski, Leanne and James Knoop, Kyle and Erin Jaworski and five great grandchildren, Jackson, Brielle, Soren, Blake and Jonah, as well as several nephews and a niece. He also leaves his son-in-law, Bill Dylengoski. John was predeceased by his beloved sister, Rita Branagan and her husband Alfred of Natick. John was very grateful for the caring friendships of Mary Ellen Dunsmore and Joni Pesola.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visiting hour in the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (rte 62) Danvers, Saturday, May 18th from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. followed by his funeral Mass in St. Richard Church, Forest St., Danvers, at 11 A.M. Burial in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in John's memory to the Honor Flight New England, P.O. Box 16287, Hooksett, N.H., 03106.
