John J.'s Story
John J. Ferguson, son of George and Catherine (Doyle) Ferguson, and a lifelong Danvers resident, passed away in Kaplan Family Hospice House at the age of 95.
A 1940 graduate of Holton High School, he was captain of the football and baseball teams and President of his sophomore class. He attended Phillips Academy Andover and graduated from Yale University in 1947. He proudly served his country as a First Lieutenant in the Philippines during World War II, returning to build a career in the insurance industry, owning agencies in Danvers and Newton for over 30 years. He was an avid golfer and active in the Danvers community.
John lived his life with great generosity, intelligence and humor. Most of all, he was a man of the highest integrity who cared deeply for, and supported his extended family and friends. He was predeceased by brothers George & Paul, and by his sister Mary, with whom he lived for 50 years. He is survived by his sister Margaret Spanbauer and by seven nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank cherished friends, Nick Cameles and Peggy Shehan McLean for the care and support extended throughout John’s later years, and his nurses at Brightview for the care they provided.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Hobart St., Danvers.
