John H.'s Story
John H. Willey, age 85, died Thursday, November 23, 2017, unexpectedly surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Phyllis G. (Lauranzano) Willey. He was born and grew up in Ipswich, Mass. He was the son of the late George and Margaret (Power) Willey. He graduated from Ipswich High School, Class of 1950.
An honorary discharged veteran, he served in the United States Navy during the Korea War aboard the destroyer USS Myles C. Fox.
John worked as a pressman for Daniels Printing Company for 45 years. He was a member of The Italian Community Center and the VFW Post 1093 in Ipswich. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, golf and family.
Surviving him in addition to his wife, Phyllis, with whom he shared over 62 years of marriage, are three sons, David Willey and his wife, Nancy of Laconia, N.H., John D. Willey and his wife, Janet White of Peabody, Steven Willey of Beverly; a daughter, Patricia Brooks and her husband, Wayne of Bohemia, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Leanne, Patrick, Jay, Erin, Jade, Sarah; six great-grandchildren, Gunnar, Lyla, Ryan, Keegan, Harper, and Ella. He was predeceased by a brother, Earl Willey, and a sister, Katherine (Peggy) Joyce.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church, 111 New Balch Street, Beverly, Saturday, December 2, 2017, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Friday, December 1, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beverly.
