IPSWICH - John E. Fendrich, 85, of Agawam Village, Ipswich, died Saturday, February 10, 2018, in the Beverly Hospital.
Born in North Bergen N.J., he was one of three children of the late John W. and Irene (Jennings) Fendrich. A 1950 graduate of Leonia High School, he went on to attend Fairleigh Dickenson University in Madison, N.J. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served eight years in the U.S. Navy, and was discharged with five Battle Stars and a Naval Combat Action Ribbon. For many years he was employed as a postal clerk in North Bergen, later as a letter carrier in Sparta, N.J., and most recently Ipswich, from which he retired in 1995, after 31 years of government service.
He was a longtime member of Ipswich V.F.W. Post #1093.
John is survived by two sons, John E. Fendrich Jr., and his wife, Maria, of Lincroft, N.J., Steven J. Fendrich, of Weehawken, N.J.; two grandchildren, John E. Fendrich III, and Gianna Fendrich, both of Lincroft; two brothers, Albert Fendrich, George Fendrich, and many nephews and nieces.
His funeral service will be held Tuesday at 12 p.m. in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich, followed by interment with military honors in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Ipswich.
