John E. "Eddy"'s Story
John E. Jordan, 70, husband of Sharon (Nelson) Jordan of Rockport, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Ipswich, Mass., on January 17, 1947, son of Eleanor (Wennerberg) Jordan of Exeter, N.H., and the late Herbert Jordan. Eddy was a graduate of Ipswich High School, Class of 1965. After he attended Franklin Institute in Boston, he entered the Air Force for four years, and when he was discharged, he continued his studies at Wentworth Institute of Technology, receiving his degree in Nuclear Engineering. Eddy found employment at Gloucester Engineering and went back to school at Merrimack College for computer science. He then worked for Addison Gilbert Hospital, before going to Hewlett Packard, which was formerly Digital then Compaq. During high school, he was on the golf team, played a little bit of football, and ended up being the heavy weight wrestling champion of the Cape Ann League. Eddy was a Seasonal Supervisor for the Department of Conservation and Recreation, having worked at Harold Parker State Forest for 10 years and later at Halibut Point State Park, as well as being the custodian for the Rockport Housing Authority, right up until his illness. He also was an on-call Firefighter for the Town of Rockport, starting out on the Forest Fire Division, then working on Squad One, and at the age of 64, he received his EMT License. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially golfing, when he made it to the “19th” Hole. He truly loved babysitting his three granddaughters who were his pride and joy. Eddy was a member of the Gloucester Lodge of Elks #892, Rockport American Legion Post #98, and the Rockport Spiran Lodge #98. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sharon Jordan of Rockport; his son, Gregory Jordan and his wife, Katie of Wilmington, Mass.; three granddaughters, Grace, Sophie and Wendy Jordan; his mother, Eleanor Jordan of Exeter, N.H.; two brothers, Larry Jordan and wife, Cynthia of Hensonville, N.Y., Richard Jordan and his wife, Jean of Manchester, N.H.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
His funeral service will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Saturday, November 4, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. A visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. The burial will be held privately at a later date.
