John H. Day Jr. 66, formerly of Hamilton, died Friday, December 8, 2017, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late John H. and Lettie C. (West) Day. He graduated from the Hamilton Wenham Regional High School, Class of 1969, and earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He also attended the University of Virginia.
Mr. Day had been employed for many years as a store manager at C & C Auto Parts in Beverly until the time of his retirement.
An active and outstanding Mason, John dedicated his life to Free Masonry. He was a member and Past Master of the John T Heard Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Ipswich, Past Master of Amity-Mosaic Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Danvers, Past Master of Columbian Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Boston and Past District Deputy Grand Master of the 10th Masonic District of Massachusetts. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Boston and Valley of Salem, the Shriner's Aleppo Temple in Wilmington and the York Rite College.
A longtime resident of Hamilton before moving to Peabody, John also enjoyed reading and music.
Surviving him are two brothers, Ronald Day of Townsend and David Day and his wife, Cheryl of Hamilton; nieces and nephews, Melissa, Christopher, Emma, James, Ava and April; as well as several cousins. He was also the brother of the late Jimmy Day and Richard Day.
Visiting hours will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Tuesday, December 12, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Masonic Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be private.
