John D.'s Story
John D. Waitt Sr., 80, formerly of Hamilton, beloved husband of Carole N. (Jones) Waitt, died Thursday, September 7, 2017, at the Salem Hospital.
Born and raised in Beverly, he was the son of the late Howard and Eleanor (Clark) Waitt. He graduated from Beverly High School, Class of 1954.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Vietnam Era as a member of the United States Army.
Mr. Waitt had been employed for 27 years as a serviceman for Boston Gas in Beverly until the time of his retirement in 2001.
A resident of Hamilton for 22 years before moving to Florida, he was a member of the Masons A.F. & A.M. and the Shriner’s in Wilmington. An avid trumpet player, Mr. Waitt was a member of the Shriner’s Band as well as the Dane Street Band in Beverly.
In addition to his wife, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage, he is survived by two sons, Roger A. Waitt and his loving companion, Carrie Baird of Lynn and John D. Waitt Jr. of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a grandson, Patrick Waitt; a sister, Cheryl Chamberlain and her husband, Pete of Arizona; a brother, Clark Waitt and his wife, Paula of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Howard Waitt.
His funeral service will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Friday, September 15, 2017, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A visiting hour will be held prior to the service on Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Lake Worth, Fla., at a later date.
