SALEM Mr. John D. Jack Buckley 70 of Salem, died unexpectedly January 16, 2018 at Salem Hospital, following a medical incident.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late John M. and Alice L. (McCarthy) Buckley. He was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of the former St. Marys Grammar School and Bishop Fenwick High School. He matriculated to Salem State College earning his Bachelors and Masters Degrees.
An education professional, Mr. Buckley began his professional career as a teacher in Milton, N.H. He moved into education administration and was appointed Principal in Wakefield, N.H. While principal, he was also the coach of the Wakefield High School Basketball team. More recently, he had been employed as the Principal of the Howe-Manning School in Middleton until the time of his retirement.
A life long athlete, Jack enjoyed spending his time competing and was involved with athletics. He was an avid basketball player and coach, boater and enjoyed playing tennis in the summer months. He could often be found at the YMCA in Salem joining a pick-up basketball game or working on his fitness. He was a long-time member of the Juniper Community Club of Salem Willows.
A proud resident of the Willows neighborhood in Salem, Jack lived his own unique life. He endeared himself to many and was loved deeply by his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time on and by the water, had a passion for animals and will be remembered for his love of family, his athletic ability and his commitment to his friends. He will be deeply missed.
Jack is survived by his sister A. Maureen (Buckley) Joyce and her husband Neal of Middleton, his niece Neala Mercier and her husband Jeffrey of Methuen, his great nephew Dylan Mercier, his great niece Alexis Mercier and a number of cousins and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held in the Peterson-ODonnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (rte. 62) Danvers, Tuesday, Jan. 23rd at 12 noon. Relatives and friends invited. Burial is private. Visiting hours prior to the service from 10:30 A.M. to 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Jacks memory to the Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844 or to the Juniper Community Club, 21 Columbus Ave., Salem, MA 01970.
