Born and raised in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Margaret (Moran) D’Amour. The second of three children, Joan was predeceased by her best friend and older sister, Marilyn and her younger brother, Raoul. She received her education in the Beverly school system and graduated from Beverly High School in 1952.
In 1956 Joan married her childhood sweetheart and “the boy next door”, Frederick Hutchinson. After spending a year in Salem, they settled in Beverly where they raised their five children. Fred and Joan celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in June.

An active member and communicant of St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Joan served as a Eucharistic Minister and was also involved in the nursing home ministry. She enjoyed vacationing with her family at Newfound Lake in New Hampshire, Tripp Lake in Maine, and Cape Cod. Fred and Joan also enjoyed traveling with Joan’s sister Marilyn and her husband Albert Vitkauskas. She was an avid reader and an accomplished and talented knitter.
Joan was beloved for her sacrificing and gracious nature. Her greatest joy was simply spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who will be terribly missed by her family.
