BEVERLY - James J. Walsh, Jr., age 93 years, of Beverly, passed away Saturday evening, December 30, 2017 at his home.
Born in Beverly on June 5, 1924, last survivor of six children born to James J. and Margaret (Moynihan) Walsh. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Dorothy (Proctor) Walsh.
James was a career and decorated veteran with the United States Air Force. He served his country proudly during World War II and the Korean War earning the rank of Master Staff Sergeant. He was employed with the Federal Aviation Administration Department under the federal government for many years. Following his retirement, Jim was employed as the Maintenance Director for local apartment buildings and in the shipping department for Johnny Appleseeds.
Jim was a selfless man who enjoyed helping others in their time of need. He did so without fan fair and recognition. He was a great handyman and enjoyed working with his hands and could fix anything. Mr. Walsh was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. He also was an avid traveler and weather enthusiast.
Surviving him is one son, Sean Walsh of Los Angeles, CA; nine nieces and nephews, William Walsh of Ipswich, Sheila Grasso of Beverly, Michael Walsh of Newbury, James Walsh of Ipswich, Christine Walsh Mitra of Ipswich, John S. Walsh of Nesconset, NY, Kathleen Cody of Nesconset, N.Y., James Walsh of East Port, N.Y. and Marianne Barone of Dix Hills, NY. He was also the brother of the late Thomas J. Walsh, John Walsh, Mary Walsh, William J. Walsh and Timothy M. Walsh and loving companion of 25 years Lillian Lermond.
Arrangements: His Funeral Service will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly on Sunday, January 7, 2017 at 12 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A visiting hour will be held prior to the service on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Interment will be held privately.
