LYNN - James Edward "Jim" O'Brien, age 78, of Lynn, died peacefully at his home on Saturday February 17, 2018. He was the husband of Pamella (Peachey) Messer-O'Brien, with whom he shared 28 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Lynn, he was the son of the late Walter and Helen (Higgins) O'Brien. He was a graduate of St. Mary's Boys High School, class of 1957, where he was the captain of both the football and baseball teams. Jim had lived in Marblehead and Lynn his entire life.
Jim was a General Contractor, and owner of James O'Brien Construction. He had done many upscale rehabilitations, and built many homes in Marblehead, Swampscott, Lynnfield, and Boston; he was respected for the quality of his work, and had continued to work until he was forced to stop due to illness.
Jim had a magnetic personality and was known for his great smile and sense of humor. He enjoyed dining out, traveling with his wife to Aruba and Italy, and spending time at their home in Sanbornville, N.H. Jim was a great host, and loved to be surrounded by family and friends. He loved sports, especially football and baseball.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Kim-Marie Phelan, and her husband, Mark O'Connor, of Marblehead, James Kevin O'Brien, and his wife, Faith, of Everett, and Nerine Sullivan, and her husband, Timothy, of Merrimac; his grandchildren, James Wright, Brittany O'Neil, Joshua O'Neil, Patrick Phelan, and Timothy Sullivan; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Walter O'Brien and Helene Nease.
Jim's family wishes to thank the staff of Care Dimensions Hospice, especially his team Katie Swendeck, Dale LeMure, Barbara Meader, and Nancy Davan for the care and compassion given to Jim and his family over the past months.
His funeral will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. from the Solimine Funeral Home 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Pius V Church. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
