James E.'s Story
James Canniffe of Marblehead, former financial advisor and teacher died Monday, September 11, 2017, surrounded by his loving family at the Kaplan Hospice House in Danvers.
A lifelong resident of Marblehead, Mr. Canniffe attended Marblehead High School where he was a member of the Drama Club. In 1953, he graduated with two prestigious, academic awards: The Harvard Book and The Dartmouth Bowl.
He went on to study English Literature at Princeton University and graduated in 1957. In 1959, he received his Master's in English from Harvard University, and three years later, he earned a Master's of Business Administration from Babson College.
His first job out of business school was at the securities firm, Stone & Webster. Then he spent over two decades at the investment house, The Arthur W. Wood Company. More recently, he took up teaching economics at North Shore Community College, which brought him great joy.
He was an avid sailor and longtime member of the Boston Yacht Club.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Nancy; his three daughters, Mary Canniffe-McDonald, Bethany Brennan (Brian) and Emily Canniffe; a son, Jamie Canniffe (Rebekka); and 13 grandchildren. He also has a dear brother, Michael.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Mr. Canniffe at 11 a.m. Friday, September 15, at Our Lady, Star of the Sea Church, Marblehead.
