Isobel M.'s Story
Isobel M. (Pope) Gove, born January 4, 1934, daughter of the late Alexander and Margaret Pope of Glasgow, Scotland died peacefully on Thursday, August 24, 2017.
She will be deeply missed by her husband of 55 years, Robert W., her three sons and their spouses, and her seven grandchildren, Bruce (Marcia) of Beverly and their children Michael (fiancee, Elizabeth) and Alison; Sandy (Denny) of Beverly and their daughter, Maggie; Barry (Kristen) of Land O' Lakes, Fla. and their children Olivia, Josh, Spencer and Sydney. She is also survived by her brother Ross (Elizabeth) Pope of West Newbury; sister-in-law, Lucile (Jim) Sherman of East Longmeadow, several nieces and nephews and Hilda (Miller) Hamilton her dear friend she loved and cherished since she was four years old.
Isobel grew up in Glasgow, Scotland. After graduating from Hutchetson Girls School, Isobel pursued a secretarial career, working in Glasgow, London and finally Boston. After marrying Bob and settling in Beverly, Isobel became involved in the community. She was a member and past president of the Beverly Female Charitable Society, member and past president of the Friendly Garden Club of Beverly and later a member of the Hamilton Wenham Garden Club. Isobel's real passion was flowers and gardening. She was an accomplished flower arranger, earning many Blue Ribbons at the Boston Flower Show and Topsfeld Fair, at the same time becoming a Lifetime Flower Judge. Isobel was well known throughout Massachusetts for her lectures and wedding flowers.
Proud of her Scottish heritage, Isobel never missed an opportunity to spread the word upon greeting a new acquaintance. If you were lucky, she might later offer you a piece of her famous Scottish shortbread.
A memorial service will be held at the First Church in Wenham, 1 Arbor St., Wenham, on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Friday, September 8, from 4 to 7 p.m. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Beverly Female Charitable Society, 24 Sunnyvale St., Beverly MA 01915 or First Church in Wenham, 1 Arbor St. Wenham, MA. 01984.
