DANVERS, MA - Isabel Da Costa Bernardo, 50, of Danvers and Peabody, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, with her loving daughter and family at her side.
Isabel was born in Portugal on April 15, 1967, daughter of the late Diamantino Teixeira Bernardo and Acedelia (Da Costa) Bernardo. She immigrated to the United States at age eight, and was raised in Peabody, graduating from Peabody Veterans Memorial High School. She proudly became an American citizen this year, fulfilling a life long dream of hers.
As a single mother, Isabel's entire life revolved around her daughter. The matriarch of her family, she cared deeply for her parents until their passing and doted on her siblings.
Isabel lived a selfless life. She thrived on caring for others over herself and entertaining family and friends. Isabel was an incredible cook, and never missed an opportunity to seize a moment with a toast. She was passionate about donating her time to the VA, and the Brigham and Women's Hospital, especially her favorite volunteer event, Santa's Magic. She loved traveling with her daughter. Their recent trip to Italy was a highlight of her life.
Isabel embodied strength, courageously fighting, and beating cancer against all odds.
She began her working career at Travelers Insurance Company, and for the past five years she was employed at Energi Insurance Services, Inc., in Peabody, as a subrogation manager.
Isabel is survived by her loving daughter, and her husband, Amanda M., and Michael (Obie) Obremski; her siblings, and their spouses, Maria Rosa and Robert Lessard, Joe and Filomena Bernardo, John Bernardo, all of Peabody, Albertino Bernardo of Groveland, and Dulce Bernardo of N.H.; a niece, Olivia Barrete; and two nephews, Joshua and Shawn Bernardo; her significant other, Felix Spinazzola, of Boston; many friends; and her golden retriever grand-dog, Bentley.
Her family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, February 13, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral will be held at 9 a.m. from the funeral home on Wednesday, February 14, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody.
