Irene (Barceleau) Atkinson, 95, of Salem, died Sunday October 15 after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lynn to the late Arthur and Mary (Murchio) Barceleau, Irene lived in Lynn until she moved to Salem 15 years ago. She was the wife of the late Charles W. Atkinson and was devoted to her family, especially her son, Charles. Irene loved to keep her home spotless, but she spent most of her time caring for her family.
Irene is survived by her sons, Lawrence Atkinson and his wife, Janet of Salem, Charles Atkinson of Salem; her sister, Barbara Raia of Lynn; two grandchildren, Craig Atkinson and his wife, Nikki of Montclair, N.J., Mark Atkinson and his wife, Kelly of Portland, Maine; four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Kayla, Sam and Ian; and her nieces and nephews Patricia Bourque, David Barceleau, Mary Ann Simpson, Linda Ouellette and Louis Lopardi. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles; brother, Arthur Barceleau; and her sisters, Ruth Lopardi and Delphine Barceleau.
Irene’s funeral will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at 9:30 a.m. from the Solimine Funeral Home, 436 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Lynn. Burial will follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
