Herbert A.'s Story
Dr. Herbert A. Rouisse, 92, of Brooksby Village, Peabody, formerly of Topsfield, beloved husband of the late Marjorie J. (Anderson) Rouisse, died Thursday, July 13, 2017, at Continuing Care at Brooksby Village, Peabody.
Born in Leominster, he was the son of the late Eugene A. and Laura (Pratt) Rouisse. He was raised and educated in Leominster and was valedictorian of his graduating high school class.
An honorably discharged veteran, Dr. Rouisse proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during WWII. He was awarded the American Theater Campaign Medal, Theater Campaign Medal with one bronze star, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon and one overseas Service Bar for his brave service.
Upon his return from the service, Herbert continued his education at Fitchburg State Teachers College and received his Doctorate Degree in education from Boston University.
A dedicated educator and longtime resident of Topsfield, Dr. Rouisse was superintendent of Boxford and Topsfield Elementary Schools, for 26 years. He was a strong advocate for his community, students, and faculty. Herbert was committed to assuring his students were achieving at high levels and that the teachers and staff always felt supported. He will be warmly regarded as a leader in his community, a strong family man, and will be deeply missed by his family and the many lives he felt so fortunate to be a part of.
Herbert is survived by his son, Dana Rouisse of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a grandson, Christopher Rouisse and his wife, Sakshi of Fort Mill, S.C.; and his great-grandson, Ethan Rouisse. He was also the brother of the late Howard Rouisse and Alice Goodwin.
His funeral service will be held in the Chapel at Brooksby Village, Brooksby Village Drive, Peabody on Thursday, July 20, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Topsfield. A visiting hour will be held in the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St. (Route 62), Danvers from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service.
