Helen V.'s Story
Helen V. (Dembowski) Craig, age 99, entered her eternal place in heaven on February 22, 2017, less than three months before her 100th birthday. Born in Chelsea, Mass., the daughter of Richard and Veronica Dembowski, she moved with her family to Danvers as a young adult and lived there most of her life.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Vincent L. Craig. She is survived by her four children, Helen (Craig) Fitts of Lexington, Mass., Richard Craig and his wife, Marilyn of Danvers, Vincent J. Craig and his wife, Ashie of Reno, Nev., and Marcia Craig-Smith and her husband, Roger of Grass Valley, Calif. She is also survived by her brother, John Dembowski and his wife, Jean of Danvers.
Helen leaves two grandchildren, Jennifer (Craig) Gray of Epping, N.H., and Benjamin Fitts of Temecula, Calif. She also leaves three great-grandchildren, Brendan, Kayleigh, and Dylan; a niece, and several nephews.
Helen was predeceased by her sister, Tessie Dembowski, and brothers, Charlie (Sigmund), Chester, and William.
Helen’s primary legacy was her loving devotion to her family and to her Catholic faith. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
A graveside memorial service will be held October 20 at 11 a.m., as she is returned to her final resting place at the Annunciation Cemetery in Danvers, the town she loved and always considered home. Relatives and riends are invited to attend.
Donations in Helen’s memory may be made to Macular Degeneration Research, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, MD 20871.
