Gladys Margaret's Story

Gladys M. (Whalen) Powers, loving wife of Robert F. Powers, Sr., passed away on September 24, 2017 of pancreatic cancer at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born and raised in Beverly Farms, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Daisy M. (Springer) Whalen. She was educated in the Beverly Public School System.
A longtime resident of Danvers and Peabody before moving back to Beverly, she enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family, and especially summer days and nights at West Beach in Beverly Farms. She had a keen eye for talent and often offered opinions and commentary about her beloved Boston sports teams. She will be remembered for her affectionate smile, keen wit, and unconditional friend to all who crossed her path.
In addition to her husband, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage, she is survived by her daughter, Mary Collier and her husband, Scott of York, Maine; two sons, Robert F. Powers, Jr., and his wife, Heather of Stafford, Va., and William J. Powers and his girlfriend, Lynne Keithley of Lakeland, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Emily Powers, Matthew Collier, Adrian Collier; one brother, William J. Whalen and his wife, Roberta of Ipswich; sister-in-law, Elaine Whalen of Danvers; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister to the late Herman Whalen and Robert Whalen.
The Powers’ would like to thank all their family and friends for their overwhelming generosity by opening their hearts and homes during this illness.
Her Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, New Balch St., Beverly, Thursday, September 28, 2017, at 10 a.m. Arrangements by Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly, MA 01915.
