Ipswich - Gilbert J. “Gil” Elliott, 71, former husband of Mona L. (Nadeau) Elliott and Evelyn “Inchu” (Mistkowski) Elliott, both of Ipswich, died Monday, June 11, 2018, at Blueberry Hill Rehabilitation Center, Beverly, following his long illness.
Born in Beverly the son of the late Walter and Jacqueline (Jackman) Elliott he was raised in Ipswich where he attended public schools. At the age of 20 years, “Gil” entered the U.S. Army, serving a tour of duty in Vietnam. Discharged with a Purple Heart, he returned to Ipswich where he made his home and raised his family. For several years he was employed as a bartender at several restaurants, including the Choate Bridge Pub. He also worked construction with the Tougas Construction Co. of Ipswich, and most recently was employed as a foreman at the Ipswich Water Dept. from which he retired.
"Gil" was a longtime member of the Ipswich V.F.W. Post #1093 and the Ipswich AMVETS Post #201.
He enjoyed deer hunting and stock car racing. He will fondly be remembered for his honest smile and generosity.
In addition to his two former wives, he is survived by two sons, Eric Elliott and James Elliott both of Ipswich; a daughter, Cory Ann Head and her husband Jeffrey of Rowley; a granddaughter, Rachel Head of Rowley; and two sisters, Victoria Elliott of Maine, and Kimberly Elliott of Pa. He was the brother of the late Walter "Buddy" Elliott, formerly of Ipswich, Russell Elliott formerly of Texas, Geraldine Perault, formerly of Ipswich, and Kerry Elliott, formerly of Hamilton.
His funeral service with Military Honors will be held Friday, 10 a.m., graveside in Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Family and friends respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours will be Thursday 5 to 8 p.m. in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich.
