Gertrude (Shepard)'s Story
Mrs. Gertrude (Shepard) Burnham, 89, of Peabody, formerly of Danvers, died Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Kaplan Family Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in St. Albans, Vermont, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Eva (Gosselin) Shepard.
Mrs. Burnham had been employed in the Housekeeping Department at Blakedale Nursing Home and Twin Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Danvers for many years where she was known for her kindness and attention to detail. Following her retirement, she returned to work for East End Bagel Shop where she was well liked and made many friends.
A loving and dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Gertrude’s world was her family, she took great pride in providing a warm and loving home for her family and doting on her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and sharing her delights with the neighborhood.
A longtime resident of the Town of Danvers, Gertrude like to garden, was an avid bingo player and always looked forward to hunting for treasures at the flea markets. Her outgoing personality, warmth and kindness endeared her to many, she will be deeply missed.
Gertrude is survived by her son, George Sanborn and his wife Patty of Raymond, N.H.; her two daughters, Linda Koczalka and her husband Frank of Danvers, and Susan Butcher of Lynn, her four grandsons, Frank, George, Timothy and David, and two great-granddaughters, Lindsey and April. She was also the sister of the late, Raymond, Maynard, Ralph, Kenneth, Edward, Alfred, Clarence, Stanley, Junior, Lawrence, Florence and Madeline.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Hunt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and especially the staff at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers for making our mother as comfortable as possible during her final days.
Her funeral service will be held in the Peterson O’Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (Route 62), Danvers, on Thursday, May 25th at 4:30 p.m. Relatives and friends invited. A visiting hour will be held prior to the service from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The family requests no flowers please.
