Gerardo M.'s Story
Gerardo M. DiFazio, 79, died July 19, 2017, surrounded by Family at Lahey Hospital in Burlington. He was the beloved husband of Maria Cristina (Conte) DiFazio.
Born in Beverly Farms on April 15, 1938, he was the son of the late Joseph and Filomena (Carnevale) DiFazio of Fondi, Italy who resided in Beverly Farms, Mass.
After graduating Beverly High School with a trade in sheet metal, Gerardo served in the United States Navy on an aircraft carrier during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and was then stationed in Naples, Italy during the Vietnam War Era. While visiting relatives on a weekend leave, Gerardo met his wife to be Maria. After his service in Italy, he and his Military Bride settled in Beverly Farms, Mass. while he finished his Navy service. He then joined the National Guard and proudly served his country for over 20 years until he retired with an honorable discharge.
He was a proud member of the Vittori-Rocci Post, American Legion, Italian Community Center, and the Knights of Columbus.
He was employed at Bomac before taking a position at Trans World Airlines where he became a Manager and worked several years.
Gerardo was a kind, loving and caring man who was well liked by everyone. He enjoyed playing cards with his buddies, traveling to Italy, taking cruises with his Wife, and loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren, and he will be greatly missed.
In addition to his wife of 54 years, he is survived by his son, Gerald “Jerry” DiFazio and his wife, Angela of Beverly Farms; his daughter, Cristina M. Urbanski and her husband, Thomas of Beverly; his sister, Rosalie Anastasi of Beverly; two brothers, Joseph DiFazio and his wife, Amy, of Bristol, Conn. and Vincent “Jim” DiFazio and his wife, Joan of Salisbury; six grandchildren, Thomas, Michael, Miranda, Breanna, Haley and Jack as well as several nieces and nephews.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret’s Church, 672 Hale St., Beverly Farms, Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 1 p.m. Interment will be held in Beverly Farms Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Monday, July 24, 2017 in the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly, from 4 to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend both services.
