Flora G.'s Story
Flora “Flo” G. (Ruscio) LaVecchio of Salem, passed away peacefully at home Monday, November 6, 2017 after a short illness, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Francis “Frank” A. LaVecchio, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. Flo loved her home and her family, especially her two granddaughters.
Flora was born in Salem, daughter of the late Antonio and Nicoletta (Coletti). A lifelong resident of Salem MA, she graduated from Salem High School, Class of 1941, and the Salem Commercial School for Business. She worked at Sylvania Lighting and Mass Dept. of Public Welfare in Salem. After retiring, she and her husband purchased a vacation home in Las Vegas, where they spent many enjoyable and memorable years.
Flora was a communicant of St. Mary’s Italian Church in Salem, a member of the St. Mary’s Women’s Sodality, and the Third Order of the Carmelites.
Flora is survived by her three daughters, Melinda LaVecchio and Frank Kelley, Judy Elliott and her husband, Sam, and Angela DiRuzza, and her husband, Michael, and two granddaughters, Christina and Melissa DiRuzza, all of Salem; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Dot LaMonica; and brother, Al Ruscio.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visiting hours, which will be held on Friday, November 10, 2017 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home, located on 85 Federal St., in Salem.
