Salem - Mrs. Elsie May (Blenkhorn) Murphy, 95 of Salem, beloved life long companion of the late Peter Romanuk, died Tuesday, June 18, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Ellsworth and Gladys (Hebb) Blenkhorn. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School.
Upon turning 18, Mrs. Murphy joined the working word to help contribute to her large family. She began her career at Shetland Park Industries and spent the majority of her career as an assembler with the former Parker Brothers Games of Salem and Sylvania. She was quite proud of her work on the famous Monopoly game and many other well-known games during her 20 years associated with Parker Brothers.
Elsie raised three children as a single mother during the 1960's and beyond. She found love with her lifelong caring companion, Peter Romanuk and he brought her great joy throughout her life. A life long resident of the City of Salem, Mrs. Murphy was an avid gardener, a phenomenal cook and enjoyed spending her time knitting. She relished traveling to Las Vegas and playing her games of chance while visiting her son. She was truly an animal lover, especially her beloved canine companion, Chico and her feline friends, Harry and Larry. She was an avid New England Sports Fan, a die-hard Red Sox Fan and a follower of the Food Network.
As a single mother, family always came first and she created many life long and generational traditions, such as summer time chop suey sandwiches at the Salem Willows and daily Wheel of Fortune contests. She created a home and family through hard work and an abundance of love. She will be remembered for her love of family, her delicious soups and other delectables, her boisterous laugh, (which was contagious) and above all else her care and devotion to her children and grandchildren.
Elsie is survived by her children, Jackie Murphy of Las Vegas, NV, Joanne M. Davis of Danvers and Allan J. Murphy of Salem, her beloved grandchildren, Ryan Davis, Kevin Davis and Jane Murphy and her devoted brother, Robert Blenkhorn of Salem and several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. She was the sister of the late Curtis, Leonard, Stanley "Rudy" and Howard Blenkhorn and Eleanor Twombley.

Her funeral service will be held in the O'Donnell Funeral Home, 46 Washington Sq. (at Salem Common), Salem, Friday, June 28, at 12:15 p.m. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Elsie's memory to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Dear Aunt Elsie,
May you rest in peace. Please know that you were a special aunt to me with whom I shared a sincere and honest connection. Unfortunately I wish I had known. Much love always.

My Aunt Elsie was a wonderful cook and creator of many fun and wonderful things. I have numerous fond memories of the great times my brother Brian and myself had on Sundays growing up. The house always smelled of chocolate chip cookies and sumptuous dinner foods. She was always busy creating something. She knitted scarves, hats, sweaters, and afghans effortlessly. Her laugh was full and inspiring. She had a heart of gold and will be sincerely missed and always remembered.
