Eleanor May (Thomas) Newbegin Danvers - Mrs. Eleanor May (Thomas) Newbegin, 86 of Danvers, beloved wife of the late George R. Newbegin passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Danvers, she was the daughter of the late Elmer W. and Helen (Homan) Thomas. Raised and educated in Middleton, she attended Middleton Public Schools and was a graduate of the former Holten High School in Danvers.
Eleanor worked at GTE Sylvania for over 25 years as a utility worker after raising her family.
A loving mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother, family was of upmost importance in her life. She enjoyed camping and spending her summers with her family at her camp in Epsom, NH while soaking up the sun, sewing, crocheting, knitting and being crafty with and for her family. She was a Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Disabled American Veterans Club in Danvers and provided her caring and nurturing personality at the Danvers Senior Center. Her love, generosity and spunk will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Linda Harris and her husband F. Ronald of North Carolina, Beverly Hicks and her husband Michael of Peabody, Gail Mercier and her fiancé Richard Webber of Beverly, Joyce Naworski and her husband Richard of Rowley and Christine Morrissey and her husband Raymond of Rowley, her 14 grandchildren including her special caretaker Lisa Ciani and her husband, Peter of Danvers, her 11 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Elmer W. Thomas Jr.
Relatives and friends are invited to Eleanor’s Celebration of Life which will be held at the Polish Russian Lithuanian American Citizen’s Club, 12 Cheever St., Danvers on Wednesday, September 19th at 11 a.m. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (rte. 62) Danvers. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Eleanor’s name to the Danvers Senior Center, 25 Stone St., Danvers, MA 01923.
