Eleanor Marie (Pardo) (Piecewicz)'s Story
Mrs. Eleanor M. (Pardo) (Piecewicz) Smith, 80, of Salem, beloved wife of the late Balford S. Smith, died Thursday evening, June 29, 2017, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, surrounded by her family.
Born in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late Patrick F. and Evelyn G. (Scollin) Pardo.
She was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of the former St. James Girls School in Salem. She continued her education at Essex Agricultural School where she earned her degree in nursing.
Eleanor had been employed for many years as a licensed practical nurse. She was associated with the former Lynn Hospital, Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital in Salem, the visiting Nurses Association, and most recently had been employed with the former Woodbridge Assisted Living in Peabody until the time of her retirement in the year 2000.
A devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and great aunt, family was at the center of Eleanor’s life. She loved to spend time with her son and family. She was an avid traveler to the casinos and to Montreal, and had a passion for James Taylor music, but above all else family was paramount in her life. She will be deeply missed.
Eleanor is survived by her son, Edward Piecewicz of Salem; her sisters, Carolyn Torigian of Salem and Mary Perrone and her husband, Leo of Salem; her nieces, Mary Gigliello and her husband, John of Peabody, Lisa Vare and her husband, Nicholas of Kensington, N.H., Jennifer Perrone-Wessell and her husband, Kevin of Salem, and Maria Torigian of Salem; four grandnieces; and one grandnephew. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Edward M. Piecewicz.
Her funeral services were privately held. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the O’Donnell Funeral Home, 46 Washington Sq. (at Salem Common), Salem.
