Edmund "Ned" B. Stanton Jr.

September 26, 1951 - September 26, 2018

Beverly - Edmund “Ned” B. Stanton Jr., age 67, of Beverly, passed away on his birthday, Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at Beverly Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Underhill) Stanton. Born in Salem, son of Carolyn (Bates) Stanton of Salem, and the late Edmund B. Stanton, Ned was a graduate of St. John’s Preparatory School (1969) in Danvers, and Bowdoin College (1973) in Brunswick, Maine, where he majored in English.
Ned’s blessed life, as he would describe it, began where he grew up in Marblehead, Mass. It was there at a young age that he first met Mary. In 1974, Ned and Mary were married, and eventually settled in Beverly, where they raised their family in a house filled with love and laughter. Mr. Stanton had been employed as an executive for Verizon, a company that he was with for 30 years. He started working in the telecommunications industry at the age of 22 when it was first known as Bell Atlantic. His hard work and dedication to his career allowed him to retire at an early age and enjoy some of his favorite activities. These included spending time by what he termed “my” ocean. He loved boating, swimming, and relaxing on the porches of the Corinthian and Jubilee Yacht Clubs. No matter where he traveled, he could be found chasing an amazing sunset. Ned was always in search of the perfect walking stick or piece of driftwood to add to his collection. He enjoyed spending time in his yard gardening, maintaining his fish pond, and listening to sports radio. If you sat next to him at a wedding, you would need to expect an invitation to dance. In his later years, there was no greater joy to him than spending time with his grandchildren to whom he was lovingly known as “Gucky.” His gentle demeanor, appreciation for the simple things in life, and firm handshake will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife Mary, with whom he shared 44 years of marriage, he is survived by Stacie Dunleavy and her husband Sean, and their children Ryan and Andrew of Beverly, Edmund “Ted” Stanton III, and his wife Brooke, and their children Harrison, Jackson, and Peyton, of Beverly, Mary MacDonald and her daughter Jessica of Carver. He leaves behind his mother Carolyn Bates Stanton of Marblehead; and his four siblings and their spouses, Ellen Mulaney and her husband Charles of Ill., Mimi Shapiro and her husband Mark of Swampscott, Amy Ladd and her husband Tom of Danvers, and Neil Stanton and his wife Karen of Beverly; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, and longtime friends.

His funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot Street, Beverly, on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ned’s name may be made to Hopeful Journeys Educational Center, Inc., 28 Tozer Road, Beverly, MA 01915.
