Dr. Ayres Teutonio's Story

Dr. Ayres Teutonio D’Souza, 83, passed away at home on April 19, 2017 after a long battle with heart and kidney disease. He was the beloved husband of Marjorie Jane (Wilson) D’Souza for 58 years. He was son of the late Conceicao and Juliet (Torcato) D’Souza.
Ayres was born May 3, 1933, in Bombay, India and immigrated to Massachusetts in 1964. He completed his pre-medical education at St. Xavier’s College in Bombay where he received a silver medal as the top student in his class. He graduated from Grant Medical College in Bombay where he met his future wife and completed a surgical residency. He worked for six years for Aramco in Saudi Arabia. He completed a pediatrics residency at Children’s Hospital Boston. He then returned to Al Sharq Hospital in Saudi Arabia where he was Chief of Pediatrics. He returned to Massachusetts where he practiced in Salem for 45 years. He founded Pediatric Associates in Salem in 1977 and retired from practice there in 2016. His practice opened an additional office in Beverly at the Ayres D’Souza Medical Building in 2016.
Dr. D was an avid sports enthusiast representing India against Russia in soccer in 1953. He played competitive and social tennis for many years. Ayres and his wife loved to travel on exotic trips to South Africa, Rwanda, Tanzania and the Galapagos Islands. In addition, they looked forward to traveling to Hawaii each winter over the past several years.
He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, colleagues and the numerous families he took care of over the many years.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter, Cheryl D’Souza MD and her husband, Mark McKenna; three grandchildren, Ainsley, Andrew and Gavin; a sister, Diana DeMello of Bombay, India; five sisters-in-law, Olga D’Souza of Bombay, India, Dorothea Wilson of Tifton, Georgia, Mary Wilson of Stone Mountain, Georgia and Margaret Wilson of Llantwit Major, Wales; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother James D’Souza and brothers-in-law, Conrad DeMello, Leslie Wilson, Henry Wilson and Aubrey Wilson.
Visiting hours will be at Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Friday April 28, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Church of St. Paul, 50 Union Street, Hamilton, on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 9 a.m. Burial will be at the Iron Rail Cemetery, Wenham following the funeral. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
