MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA - Dorothea C. (Lane) Dame, age 89 years, wife of late Willard H. Dame, Sr, died Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at the Seacoast Nursing Home in Gloucester. Born in Beverly, daughter of the late Henry and Ruth (Cross) Lane, she was a graduate of Manchester High School and Boston University.
She worked for many years as at Shore Cliff Nursing Home in Magnolia as the activities director and at Magic Years Nursey School.
Dorothea was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She spent many years as a member First Parish Church of Manchester.
In her retirement she enjoyed traveling around the world with her husband and friends. She also enjoyed arts and gardening.
Surviving her are four children, Willard H. Dame, Jr. and his wife, Jocelyn of Bristol, R.I., Robert F. Dame and his wife, Catherine of Plymouth, Cynthia L. Haverty and her late husband, Scott of Manchester by the Sea, and Ruth E. Murphy and her husband, Peter of Littleton; 14 grandchildren, Jessica Haverty, Maia Hannah, Willard H. Dame III, Alex Harrah, McKenzie, Kylie, River, Morgan, Brody, Kevin, Kyle, Kelly Dame, Peter and Abby Murphy; two great-grandchildren, Shealeigh and Phoenix. She was predeceased by a brother, Frank Lane, and a sister, Frances Lane.
Her Funeral Service will be held at the First Parish Church Congregational, Manchester by the Sea, on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Manchester by the Sea.
